How to Excel at Wedding Speeches

Traditionally the members of the wedding party to give wedding speeches are the father of the bride, the bride from and the best man, but sometimes the maid or matron of honor and the bride may also choose to speak, as may the mother of the bride. However, there is no need to panic because by spending the time to plan and prepare yourself you'll feel calmer and not show your nerves.

To get started you should write down all the things you love about the bride and groom. While it is the best man's job to mock the groom, the other speeches are usually on the serious side but with a joke or two if appropriate. If you make a joke about marriage, say something good about it as well. Practice your wedding speech until it sounds exactly like you want. Being prepared will ease your nerves and give you more confidence so that you can give a wedding speech that everyone will enjoy.

The speeches are usually given after the meal and may either be introduced by a wedding MC, or often the Best Man - remember though, the hard part of the day is over with the marriage ceremony and the speeches are usually enjoyed by everyone.

If you're the father of the bride then you'll probably give you're speech first. You can start out by welcoming the guests and thanking them for coming to the wedding. You can go on to talk about happiness for the couple and things about your daughter's childhood, personality and all her accomplishments. Say some pleasant things about your son-in-law.

If the bride's mother is speaking then it comes after the father of the bride's toast to the couple. You can begin by introducing herself in case some of the guests don't know you. You should also welcome the guests. For your mother of the bride speech, you can include some wonderful memories of your daughter during her childhood and wonderful things she has done. Be sure to welcome the groom's family.

The bridegroom follows, thanking his parents for everything. You should also thank everyone for the gifts and thank your new father in law for his speech and for giving his daughter away. Mention everyone in the wedding party and thank them. Your speech should be done in behalf of you and your bride.

The best man gives his speech after the bridegroom. Your speech is mainly about the groom and can include things that are funny - in fact you'll be expected to make fun of the groom and mention some embarrassing anecdotes. Mention the bride and compliment her.

If the maid of honor gives a speech you should thank the bride for choosing you as her maid of honor. Talk about your close relationship with the bride and things you shared while growing up. Mention some good things about the groom as well.

Your wedding speech should make the couple, wedding party and the guests feel good. Use simple and short sentences and ever say anything to embarrass anyone. Take your time and prepare your speech. It's much easier to deliver a speech if you're prepared. Everything you say should be sincere. You want to add something wonderful to this special day.
